Regeneration and Refurbishment

Regeneration and RefurbishmentThe built environment in the UK comprises a complex range of designs that span many generations. Irrespective of age, buildings must be fit for purpose and new regulations impose ever more stringent standards for buildings to achieve. Our clients are coming under increasing pressure to create sustainable buildings which provide safe, healthy, compliant and environmentally friendly facilities from which they can function.

However, with land a scarce resource and capital expenditure capped, many of our clients have little option but to adapt and improve their existing building portfolio. At Richardson we draw on our wide range of experience and expertise to regenerate and refurbish properties and buildings to create better communities.

Our capability ranges from building extensions to schools to refurbishing hospital wards to converting traditional Victorian townhouses into luxury modern apartments. We also deliver capital planned maintenance activities for the refurbishment of social housing for local authorities and registered social landlords. Many of our projects are delivered in occupied environments and by treating all of our stakeholders with respect, we are able to deliver projects on time within budget and forge lasting relationships which culminate in repeat business.

To supplement our repair and maintenance capability, we also undertake a variety of specialist works including mechanical and electrical plant overhauls, complete refurbishments and replacements of environmental equipment. Mechanical and electrical components form an integral part of any building and most major modifications will impact upon them. Retrofitting mechanical and electrical components and systems represents a significant challenge for specialist contractors.

Unlike new build projects, where the optimal system can be incorporated into the design, modernisation projects require extra care and skill to ensure the upgrade complements the existing infrastructure. To maintain the integrity of the building and improve performance of mechanical and electrical components and systems requires precise design and planning capabilities as well as expert installation skills.
